What is a Dietitian?
Registered Dietitians in the UK hold the
only legally recognised graduate qualification in
nutrition and dietetics.
A state registered dietitian is a professional dedicated
to the science of nutrition and
diet therapy to manage a variety
of acute and chronic medical conditions.
Each registered dietitian has
successfully completed a four year honours degree
in nutrition and dietetics with a 28 week
clinical placement.
Unlike the name nutritionist
the title dietitian is protected. This
protection provides assurance to clients that
the professional has completed all the necessary
education and training to be able to provide sound
dietary advice.
Dietitians practice in
a variety of settings from hospitals to universities
to health clubs. Dietitians also provide consultations
privately. If you would like to find out more
about the profession, there are many dedicated
websites exploring the role.
